This summer, if you’re looking for professional development resources or continuing education courses, we know you’re searching for new resources that will help you bring more value to your classroom — not just repeat the same concepts you’ve already mastered.
EiE experts will be presenting at several conferences this month, covering topics for STEM educators teaching young CS learners.
First, at CSTA’s 2021 Virtual Conference this week we’ll be presenting our session: Opening New Worlds for Young CS Learners. [7/15/21 from 3-3:45pm EST, Register here!]
About our session: Reaching students who are currently underrepresented in the CS field requires both recruitment and retention. Come learn more about how you can "recruit" students within your classroom by inspiring early interest in CS. For learners who do not yet see CS as part of their identity or community, broadening the contexts in which CS is presented, and clearly identifying connections to learners' interests and values are essential. Contextualization of CS ideas within art, social studies, or even students' favorite movies helps students build a strong understanding of how CS can be used in their daily lives. Find out more about ways to catch young learners' attention and spark a connection to CS. By presenters Lorri Coates and Brianna Wilkinson
At the end of the month, we’ll be presenting with NSTA’s STEM21 Virtual Conference to cover the session again for their audience of excellent educators. [7/26/21 from 1:45-2:30pm EST, Register here!]
