New Spanish Resources for our Afterschool Curricula

Posted by EiE Team on Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Afterschool Engineering The Engineering is Elementary team is committed to making our engineering curricula accessible to all students, including English Learners—the fastest growing group of public school students in the United States. We already have Spanish-translated student-facing materials available for our 20 in-school curriculum units, and you'll notice an exciting addition if you check out our two out-of-school time curricula. You can now download Spanish translations of the student notebooks for all 20 Engineering Adventures and Engineering Everywhere units!

EE Spanish EDPWhy translate the student notebooks for our out-of-school time curricula into Spanish? The EiE team’s research has shown the power of engineering notebooks in helping students organize their information, scaffold their work, and collaborate and communicate effectively with their peers. And because 77% of English Learners speak Spanish at home, we want to provide those same supports while promoting literacy in their home language.

We’ve also recently revamped our download pages to make the process even easier to navigate. Now, when you’re ready to get started with an Engineering Everywhere unit like It’s About Time: Engineering Timers, you’ll have even more options on our re-designed download screen. There, you’ll be able to download both the Spanish and English versions of the notebooks that your young engineers will use to document their engineering design journey. You’ll also be able to download all of the other resources you’ll need to complete the unit on that same page.

Providing translations of our out-of-school-time notebooks is just one piece of EiE's ongoing commitment to English Learners. We also have Spanish translations of the student-facing resources—storybooks, worksheets, and family letters—available for all 20 in-school EiE units. You can download the Spanish-language family letter from our website on the individual page for each unit. And, if you’re looking for translations of the worksheets or storybooks, give our customer service team a call at 617-589-0230 and they will be able to assist you.

Keep your eye on our newsletter and blog for even more exciting announcements—we're making it even easier for teachers to access more of our Spanish-language resources, and you'll be the first to know!
