EWeek2021: Celebrate ‘Introduce A Girl to Engineering Day’ with These 3 Names to Know!

We’re excited to continue celebrating Engineering Week with you! This year’s theme is Imagining Tomorrow. COVID-19 laid bare the critical work of engineers in creating a world safe from pandemics, climate change, cyber-attacks and other daunting global challenges. Inspired by these challenges, this year’s celebration focuses on the future and sets our sights on a more just, equitable and diverse community of engineering professionals to address the world’s needs. And, since the celebration falls within Black History month, there are additional opportunities to bring to light the often overlooked contributions to the field of engineering that have been made by Black innovators over the years.

What You Need to Know for Engineering Week 2021: Imagining Tomorrow!

Engineering Week starts today! The National Society of Professional Engineers established this national celebration in 1951 to recognize contributions made by engineers and the impacts they have made on all of our lives, from the earliest inventors to our most modern innovators. Engineering Week always falls during the week of February 22nd, the birthday of President George Washington, who is considered our nation’s first engineer.

Today, February 11th, is a special joint holiday, celebrating both National Inventors Day and International Day of Girls and Women in Science! And, since these two observances fall within Black History Month, we’re excited to highlight three Black women whose scientific inventions influenced their fields and changed lives.
