This year has been a whirlwind and, as we approach year end, many of us at EiE and the Museum of Science are reflecting on what 2020 has brought us. While no one could have prepared for the far-reaching impacts of the global coronavirus pandemic, we are touched by the ways our community has adapted and responded to such an uncertain time.

What is the Engineering Design Process?
One of the core elements we consider when designing STEM activities for our learners is the Engineering Design Process, or EDP. The process is a set of steps that guide us - or any professional engineer, scientist or mathematician - through solving a problem. But what do each of the steps really mean?

Pilot Testers Wanted for New Computer Science and Engineering Units!
To develop the 21st century skills all learners need to succeed in school and life, we must foster digital literacy and computational thinking skills. That’s why we’re expanding students’ STEM knowledge with brand new computer science units, designed to integrate with existing Engineering is Elementary units. To ensure that these units will work for all learners, we’re seeking elementary educators who are interested in pilot testing them in their own classrooms. In exchange for your feedback, materials and a stipend will be provided.

Need Help Funding STEM?
Don’t let funding concerns get in the way of implementing a high quality STEM program in your school district. Learn how Title IV-A grants can help you give students access to engineering and a well-rounded education. The Every Student Succeeds Act offers opportunities to integrate STEM into elementary classrooms through Title IV grants known as the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants. For FY 18, did you know that Title IV got a huge funding boost—from $400 million in 2017-2018 to $1.1 billion? This is a tremendous step forward for elementary STEM education. Now you have even more funds and flexibility to implement STEM programs in your school or district.
